We are now receiving submissions for Intercultural Music Conference and Concerts 2018 (ICM2) which will take place in Samsun at Ondokuz Mayıs University between 20-23 March 2018. This will be the second of Icm Conference and Concerts. The first one was organised by Uc San Diego / Music Department in 2016.
ICM2 welcomes approaches that address issues, including but not limited to:
- practices of interculturalism in music
- cultural representation and misrepresentation in music
- cultural authenticity
- practices of identity in intercultural music studies
- correlations of music and politics within interculturalism
- intercultural music and migration
- interculturalism in popular music studies
- interculturalism in music technology
- interculturalism in music education
We invite proposals in the following formats:
1) Academic papers
2) Lecture recitals
We accept proposals both in English and Turkish (Turkish proposals should be sent with the English translation of the abstract). Accepted proposals of categories (1) and (2) will be presented in panels, and those of (3) will be presented in concert.
For all categories above, please submit an abstract of no more than 250 words.
1) Call For Academic Papers
Presentations should be maximum 15 minutes + 5 minutes for questions.
Academic papers will be evaluated through double-blind peer review method.
2) Call For Lecture Recitals:
Presentations should be maximum 20 minutes + 5 minutes for questions. Priority will be given to composers/soundartists who can provide their own performers. Otherwise you may enquire us through e-mail if you are looking for a performer or instruments that we provide in our instrument setup for category 3 – we will do our best to help. Omnibus string quartet is not included to the setup for proposals in category 2.
3) Call For Scores
Composers submitting scores, in addition to an abstract, should also submit a score and recording (or link of a recording) of a previous composition.
The maximum performance duration for composition is 10 minutes.

- In addition to Omnibus String Quartet we provide the following instruments/performers:
1 Piano, 2 Cello, 2 Violin, 1 Trombone, 1 Ney, 1 Kemençe, 1 Ud, 1 Bağlama, Percussion instruments: Marimba (5 octaves) piccolo snare drum, drumset (3Tomtoms+Snare drum+Bass Drum w/pedal+crash,ride, splash cymbals+HiHat) agogo bells, small cabasa, Tambourine, triangle, temple block, frame drum, darbouka, castagnettes, wooden spoons, clave, ratchet, whip, cajun, shakers / 4 percussion players.
